Banff sits within the Banff National Park – 600 miles east of the city of Vancouver and is relatively small, so it doesn’t have what you’d consider neighborhoods like in a bigger city. But some parts of the area may be useful to know:

  • Downtown District: As you might expect, where most of the bars, restaurants, hotels, and shops are. It’s only a few blocks large, though, so easily walkable. The Bow River runs alongside, and Central Park is worth a visit, too.
  • The Uptown District: Uptown extends just outside downtown – in most directions. It’s less dense for shops and so on, but still easily walkable.
  • Lake Louise: One of the main landmarks near Banff, popular with tours and ski fans. It’s a small village close to Victoria Glacier. Moraine Lake is also not far from here. Shuttles to and from the area are common in Banff.
  • Canmore: A few miles south of Banff is Canmore. It’s a slightly less busy town, but just as beautiful, with mountains and skiing to enjoy. There are also a fair amount of shops, bars, and restaurants to visit.
